Vape shop worker Aman Singh sexually assaulted a girl in the car park of a Morrisons supermarket. Aman Singh lured the teenager into his car under the pretence of giving her e-cigarettes before assaulting her.
A trial at Liverpool Crown Court heard that the 27-year-old was sitting in his vehicle in the car park of the Morrisons store in Widnes in August last year when he saw the 15-year-old victim walking past with a friend. He then called over for her to enter the car, which she did.
But Singh, of Whiteley Street in Manchester, then went on to bite the girl to the neck and breast. Peter Wilson, prosecuting, today read out a statement to the court on behalf of the complainant, describing how the incident left her “fearing that looking at people or smiling at them will be misinterpreted as her being sexually interested in them”.
Joanne Maxwell, defending, told the court: “There is mitigation in this case, in that he is still a relatively young man with no previous convictions at all. Mr Singh entered the United Kingdom with his family from Afghanistan in 2018.
“An application to remain was made and refused on behalf of all the family, I am told. That decision has been appealed. He has been provided with a limited work permit. There are solicitors instructed in an application for asylum.
“This, in my submission, was an isolated incident. In my respectful submission, perhaps the most aggravating feature of this case was the disparity in age. It is something which is out of character for him. He had been assisting in the vape shop for a significant period, with other children coming and going without trouble at all.
“References attest to his good character and what they think of him. The family are all members of the Sikh community who attend at the temple on a regular basis.”
Singh was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault by a jury. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool and assisted by an interpreter, he was jailed for 18 months on Wednesday.

The court heard that he bit a 15-year-old girl to the neck and breast after luring her into his car in Liverpool. Singh entered the United Kingdom with his family from Afghanistan in 2018 and was given temporary residence while awaiting a final decision on his asylum application.
