A man who repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a schoolgirl has been jailed.
Marian-Darius Neagu, aged 32, targeted the girl repeatedly over a period of six years and was reported to Nottinghamshire Police in August of this year.
When he was interviewed by specialist child abuse detectives, he initially gave no comment answers, but later pleaded guilty to five counts of rape, nine counts of sexual assault and three counts of causing a girl to engage in sexual activity.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 24 March, Neagu, previously of Nottingham, was given an extended 13 year sentence.
He was also added to the sex offenders’ register for life and handed a restraining order forbidding any future contact with the victim.
Once he is released from jail, Neagu will also be the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will tightly restrict his access to children.
Detective Constable Elizabeth Williams, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Neagu is a calculating sexual predator who subjected this child to a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse.
“These assaults grew more and more serious over time and have unsurprisingly had a profound impact on the victim.
“So, as Neugu starts this very long jail sentence I would like to pay tribute to her for the bravery she has shown throughout the legal process.
“The evidence she provided us with was compelling and really left her abuser with little option but to plead guilty to these heinous offences.”

A man has been jailed for more than 10 years after raping a child. Marian-Darius Neagu, 32, raped the underage victim more than once, sexually touched her, sent her photographs of his private parts and asked her for similar photos of her in return, Nottingham Crown Court was told.
And in a victim impact statement, the victim’s mother told how Neagu “took away her (daughter’s) innocence” and felt that she had let down her own child. Handing him a 13-year jail term, Judge Julie Warburton said: “In the most abominable way you took her innocence to satisfy your depraved sexual desires.
“You tried to shush her, told her not to tell anyone and tried to get her to say she enjoyed it. I have read the victim impact statements. In terms of (the girl) she is broken. Her mother feels she failed her daughter and she herself (also) feels broken.”
David Allan, prosecuting, said the sexual abuse became known in the summer of last year. The prosecutor said the police were called and an investigation began.
Mr Allan said: “(It discovered that) he had hugged and kissed her and that escalated to full sex. He asked her, “Do you want to be my woman?’ and “act like I am your man’. He asked her if she liked it and she said she didn’t to which he said ‘don’t be a liar, you do’.
“He sent her sexual messages of his (private parts) three or four times and asked for pictures of her in return. They had played hide and seek and during it he touched her sexually.”
Neagu, of Ilkeston Road, Stapleford, was arrested, charged and pleaded guilty to charges of rape of a child, sexual activity with a child, assault by penetration of a child and sexual assault of a child. He has no previous convictions.
In the victim impact statement the victim’s mother said: “He took away her innocence and I feel like I have let her down and failed to protect her. I have vivid flashbacks and struggle to sleep at night and I feel angry.”
Gregor Purcell, mitigating, said his client’s guilty pleas had saved the girl and her mother the ordeal of having to relive what took place when giving evidence at a trial. He said the defendant, who worked spraying cars for Toyota, is a man of previous good character.
The barrister said: “It is appalling behaviour of which he is rightly ashamed. He cannot begin to explain why he behaved in the way he did and he has been remanded for five months now and is seeking to address his offending.
“He is very sorry for what he has done.” As well as the long prison term, the judge placed Neagu on the sex offender register for life and handed him a lifetime sexual harm prevention order.
The 13-year term is made up of 12 years custody and a one year extended licence. It means the defendant will not be eligible to apply for parole until two-thirds of the way through the custodial element – i.e. eight years.
