Ishaq Al-Noor, 21, ‘predatory sex offender’ jailed for 16 years after cemetery rape in Hull

7 August 2018

A “predatory sex offender” who raped one woman and attempted to rape another in a Hull cemetery has been jailed.

Ishaq Al-Noor, 21, of Pendrill Street, Hull, dragged his victims into the cemetery on Spring Bank West in June and November 2017, police said.

At Hull Crown Court, he was handed a 16-year jail term and ordered to serve another six years on licence .

Al-Noor initially denied rape and attempted rape but later admitted the charges on the first day of a trial.

Following his sentencing on Monday, Humberside Police praised the “immense bravery” of the two women for reporting the offences.

‘Traumatic experiences’

Det Ch Insp Craig Nicholson said: “The accounts of their traumatic experiences and evidence gathered enabled us to build a strong case against Ishaq Al-Noor.

“His earlier admission of guilt meant the victims did not have to relive their dreadful ordeals before a jury.

“This will never lessen the damage this predatory sex offender has inflicted upon them and… the lasting damage he has caused to his victims and their families.”

Al-Noor was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

He lay in wait for vulnerable young women walking alone down Spring Bank West before dragging them into a cemetery in a bid to rape them.

Ishaq Al-Noor succeeded in raping a 17-year-old student and just six months later he tried to rape a mother in her 20s.

The aftermath of Al-Noor’s predatory attack on the teenager caused her life to fall apart and even the mum admitted the harrowing ordeal had left her attempting suicide.

The first assault saw the teenager get raped by Al-Noor as she walked home from a party. He was “laughing and joking” and trying to talk to her before he grabbed her by the neck and pulled her into the cemetery.

“She tried to hold onto the railings but without success,” Hull Crown Court heard. “Despite her best efforts she was unable to hold on and he dragged her backwards into the cemetery”.

They were initially face to face, and Al-Noor began kissing her before forcing her to the ground and raping her. He ignored her pleas to stop and her saying he was hurting her.

Al-Noor was deemed to pose a “high risk of serious harm to women” and was subsequently locked up for 16 years in August 2018.
