Libyan Taha Derwish, 25, and failed asylum seeker in court charged with sexual assault in Crewe

A man has appeared in court charged with sexual assault following reports of an incident on a main road.

Taha Derwish, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with an assault on Nantwich Road in Crewe, police said.

He appeared before Chester magistrates on Friday and was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Chester Crown Court on 24 October.

Mr Derwish is currently appealing a refused asylum application and had been staying in the Royal Hotel in Crewe, the court heard.
