A 30-year-old man who sexually assaulted three women on trains in London has been jailed for over six months following a British Transport Police investigation.
Ahmad Ahmedzai of Great Road, Hemel Hempstead, was sentenced on Friday 30 May at Inner London Crown Court to 27 weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault. He was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for seven years and is on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and pay costs of £687.
The court heard how on three occasions last year Ahmedzai targeted lone women on trains in London. On 10 September, he was on a train from Bushey to London Euston when he sexually assaulted the 28-year-old woman multiple time. As the train was very busy the victim was unable to move away from Ahmedzail.
Then on 2 November, Ahmedzai was on a Jubilee line train from Bermondsey when again he sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman on a busy train service.
Later that month on 25 November Ahmedzai was on board a very busy train from Watford Junction to London Euston and Ahmedzai sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman.
All three victims reported these assaults to BTP and provided descriptions, officers were able to obtain CCTV and Ahmedzai was identified through facial recognition.
The SHPO means Ahmedzai can only travel on the TfL network when using an oyster card, a contactless debit or credit card linked to an account in his name and when travelling outside the TfL network has to book any ticket in advance and notify the police in advance of travel.
Breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order is a criminal offence and can result in further custodial time.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Jack Leach said “Ahmedzai is a dangerous predator who targeted women on busy services in order to hide his sick antics, but due to the brave actions of those he targeted, by reporting the crimes to us we were able to catch him.
There is zero-tolerance for sexual offences on the rail network and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.

Afghan origin
The Ahmedzai surname is of Afghan origin, derived from the name Ahmad, meaning “praiseworthy” or “commendable” in Arabic. The suffix “-zai” indicates descent from a particular ancestor or belonging to a specific group, thus meaning “descendant of Ahmad” or “belonging to the Ahmad tribe”. The Ahmadzai tribe is a Sunni Muslim Pashtun community found in South Waziristan and Bannu Districts of Pakistan, and they are a distinct branch of the larger Wazir tribe. Historically, the Ahmadzai have played significant roles in Afghan society, particularly during the Durrani Empire and the Anglo-Afghan Wars, reflecting their importance in the region’s history.
