A man who followed a woman home and attempted to sexually assault her has been jailed for nine years.

Lukasz Wesolowski, 38, of no fixed address, followed a lone woman from Bridge Street in Stafford town centre to a road in Rowley Park where he grabbed her from behind and held her mouth and nose.

The woman was unable to scream or breathe but managed to break free and run home, without her belongings, after Wesolowski loosened his grip. The 38-year-old then fled the scene.

An appeal was issued, urging Wesolowski to hand himself in to detectives the following day.

Following a CCTV trawl, detectives found footage of the 38-year-old hiding in bay windows before he grabbed the woman and more footage of him running from the scene.

Wesolowski was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court today (8 April) after pleading guilty to commit an offence with the intent to commit a sexual offence and false imprisonment.

He was sentenced to nine years for the first offence and 32 months for false imprisonment, to run concurrently.

Detective Constable Howard Davies, from CID, said: “This was an attack on a vulnerable woman who was simply heading home after an enjoyable night with her friends.

“Wesolowski could be seen to hide behind bay windows allowing him to get close to his victim before attacking her. Thankfully due to her actions, she managed to break free physically unharmed but physically very shaken up.

“I would just like to thank the public for their swift response to our initial media appeal which helped to forward this investigation and positively identify the offender.”

Rapist Lukasz Wesolowski

A woman raped by a 42-year-old in Stoke-on-Trent is urging victims to ‘not be afraid’ of coming forward to report what has happened to them. Justice caught up with sex beast Lukasz Wesolowski who had raped and attempted to rape his victim over a six-month period more than a decade ago.

The victim approached Staffordshire Police in 2022 to report the crimes. Wesolowski, now of Maidstone, Kent, pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of attempted rape at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday.

As reported by StokeonTrentLive the defendant will learn his fate at the crown court on April 9. It has since emerged that the defendant was jailed for nine years in 2020 after grabbing a woman in Rowley Park, in Stafford.

Following this week’s hearing the brave woman has praised the efforts of police – and urged rape survivors to speak out.

She said: “My hope is that this will reassure more women like me to have the confidence and faith to come forward and not to be afraid to speak up for themselves. I wanted to let the public know that there are some exceptional people working in policing that have a lot of care in their heart for women like me.”

Rapist Lukasz Wesolowski

Taxi driver Lucasz Wesolowski has been jailed for 14 years after raping a woman. The 42-year-old was handed a nine-year prison sentence back in 2020 for a sex crime and false imprisonment when the victim in the rape case discovered it was her attacker.

The victim alerted Staffordshire Police and Wesolowski pleaded guilty to charges of rape and attempted rape on the day of his trial.

Prosecutor Barry White told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court: “She did not consent.”

In a moving victim statement the woman read to the court she said she was ‘abused’ by Wesolowski. She added: “Since those heart-breaking days I tried to put everything to the back of my mind.”

She added that she hopes her story will help other women to come forward so other sexual offenders are prosecuted.

Edmund Potts, mitigating, said Wesolowski is aware that his offending was ‘deeply traumatic’. He is serving time at HMP Dovegate, has completed several courses in custody, and has received ‘positive entries’ for his conduct.

Recorder Julian Taylor said: “You raped her. You tried to rape her on another occasion.

“She managed to get her life back in order. She put this into the back of her mind. She saw a news post when you were sentenced for the other matters. She reported her allegations to the police.

“At the 11th hour you faced up to the despicable acts that you had committed. It is aggravated by your previous convictions.”

Wesolowski must serve two-thirds of the prison sentence before he is released. He is now on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
