Sid Ali Djelid jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years for raping and stealing from three victims in the city centre between February and July 2024.
On Thursday 24 July 2025, Sid Ali Djelid (09/01/1986) – also known under the alias of Mourad Malki of Smedley Road, Harpurhey, Manchester, M8 0 was found guilty of five counts of rape in the city centre at Manchester Crown Court following a five-week trial.
Today (Monday 6 October 2025), he has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 16 years at Manchester Crown Court.
The series of rapes took place between February and July 2024, with Djelid praying on – and attacking – intoxicated victims.
Following the rape of the two men and woman, the 39-year-old would go on to steal his victim’s personal items, including their mobile phones and credit cards, trying to use the credit cards at multiple locations across north Manchester.
Djelid was arrested on Saturday 21 July 2025, after being identified and arrested on Bloom Street in the city centre.
In a victim impact statement read out in court, one of Djelid’s victims said: “Directly after the attack I felt sick, violated and full of self-hating. I felt like collapsing and crying I struggled to comprehend what had happened to me or put anything together. I lost all confidence and all trust after it had happened.
“As a direct result of what happened I won’t approach people anymore if I needed help. I used to think of myself as a social butterfly – full of charisma but what happened to me has destroyed me and rocked the very core of who I am.
“I’ve lost my spark and the vibrant person in me has died. I don’t feel pretty or good about myself. I have lost confidence and feel my identity is lost. I have been struggling to cope and what has happened has impacted my life in many ways.”
Another victim said: “In the coming days, I had a loss of appetite and struggled to sleep. I really didn’t know what to do with myself. I have really struggled with my mental health and coming to terms with what happened to me. I really didn’t feel like a human being anymore.
“I had completely isolated myself from those who I trusted the most. I was a confident person that liked to go out and socialise.
“This has stopped. I don’t feel like I have the courage to go out anymore.”
Senior Investigating Officer Paul Davies from our Major Incident Team said: “Djelid deliberately targeted vulnerable individuals, approaching intoxicated victims and luring them to secluded areas under false pretences.
“His actions were calculated, predatory, and deeply disturbing. In each case, he not only subjected his victims to horrific sexual assaults, but also stole personal items, adding further trauma to an already devastating experience.
“We want Manchester to be a City that welcomes everyone — a place where people can live, work, and visit without fear. Our officers work tirelessly to ensure that our streets throughout the day and night, remain safe and that those who seek to harm others are brought to justice.
“I would like to commend the bravery of the victims who came forward and supported this investigation. Without their assistance, we would not have been able to put this dangerous individual behind bars.”
